Himalayan crystal salt is a pure, natural salt containing almost all the minerals and trace elements found in the human body, making it an important health source capable of maintaining vital functions in the body. It is generally agreed amongst health professionals that it is the cleanest and most beneficial on earth. This is due to the unique formation of the salt. The Himalayas were formed millions of years ago from the collision of two continental plates. Previously this area was occupied by a sea known as the Tethys. The salt deposits left by the drying sea laid buried and protected by molten rock, while the earth formed the structures we know as the Himalayas. Consisting of the most perfect geometric structure, the salt is the purest known and is ecologically mined by hand and stone ground. It works in complete harmony with the inner body's workings resulting in an energised body.

It includes 84 of the possible 92 trace elements found in the human body with many benefits including:

Himalayan salt can be consumed and used as an alternative to ordinary table salt or even sea salt. Using it in cooking, on food, dissolved in bath water for a re-energising soak or detox all help to maintain the body’s natural balance.

Whilst life is not possible without salt, the rate at which we consume it is causing us many health problems. This is because many of us are adding sodium chloride (table salt) to food which already contains enough salt. Natural salt not only contains sodium and chloride, but also other natural elements identical to those of which our bodies have been built and which are found existing in the oceans and where all life originated (Hence our instinctive draw to the ocean, where we can recharge our batteries and regenerate) . Our bodies contain the same salty solution as that of the natural sea. This sole (pronounced so-lay) flows throughout our system and blood vessels regulating and balancing the functions of our bodies. In fact, salt has been so important to our health for thousands of years and was known as a panacea. Alchemists called it the fifth element. It was only with the advent of industrialisation that we started to become disconnected from nature. It was also around this time that we started ‘cleaning’ the salt with chemicals, removing essential minerals and trace elements leaving only the sodium and chloride. Thankfully, it seems that we are returning to the natural way of things. We are looking more and more for natural remedies and therapies that don’t poison our already toxic laden bodies, but instead treat holistically and in balance with nature. One of these growing therapies is through the use of salt, by drinking a solution of pure water and crystal salt. This ‘sole’ supplies the body with the natural solar and light energy stored in the crystals. In fact the word sole comes from the Latin ‘sol’ meaning ‘sun’. This energy is stored in the body for up to 24 hours and is completely absorbed by the body.

Preparing sole

  1. Place several Himalayan Crystal Salt chunks in a glass container and add spring water until full.
  2. After 24 hours, check to see if the salt crystals have completely dissolved.
  3. If they have, add a few more crystals until the water can no longer dissolve any more salt. The salt crystals should sit at the bottom of the jar without dissolving any further.
  4. At this point the solution becomes saturated at 26%. This means it is stable and ready for consumption.

By following this process, the glass container can be refilled again and again with water and salt. Note: Do not throw any salt away that is left from a batch as this can be reused for the next.

Directions for use

Take 1 teaspoon of the solution in a glass of spring water every morning before breakfast.
It is generally advised that the upper two-thirds of the solution in the jar is highly beneficial for internal use. This is because the pH balance is more alkaline. The salt solution left at the bottom of the jar, tends to be more acidic and so more beneficial if used externally where it can be absorbed by the skin, such as in a bath or as a body scrub for example.

Sole can be used in the treatment of the following:

Arthritis Drink 1 tsp of sole on an empty stomach, before breakfast. A cold poultice of sole solution can be applied to particularly sore areas. Wrap with dry bandage. Drink plenty of water throughout the day.

Asthma/Bronchitis Drink 1 tsp of sole on an empty stomach, before breakfast. Inhalation therapy can be used once or even twice a day using the salt crystal. Boil a couple of pints of water (enough to fill a large bowl). Add 28g of salt and dissolve. Cover head and bowl with a towel and inhale the vapours, keeping the face far enough away from the hot steam so as not to burn the skin. Inhale for 10-15 minutes.

Dental and gum care The sole can also be used undiluted for tooth brushing and as a mouthwash to help reduce gum bleeding. An over acidic condition in the mouth and throat is a common cause of tooth problems. By gargling, the sole will help build a pH balanced mouth flora and help prevent the tooth enamel from eroding. Brushing teeth with undiluted sole will also help.

Whilst taking sole is completely safe, it is in no way meant to replace any therapy or treatment you are undergoing with your doctor. Always seek professional advice before starting any treatment.
Always support your salt crystal therapy with an intake of 6 to 8 (or more) glasses of water a day.
