Ageing is a slow, inevitable process subtly altering our physiology and modifying our skin. The life span of cells reduces as we age. In childhood, a skin cell lives around 100 days, for an adult it is reduced to 48 days. After the age of 45, the epidermis becomes thinner, elastin begins to disappear, and the structure of collagen is disrupted. This all contributes to an increasing lack of tone and elasticity resulting in wrinkles, sagging and a dull pallor.
It is therefore important that skin is continually protected from the elements as sensitivity is increased. Strengthen the skin by treating it to facials, nourishing exfoliants and rich moisturisers. Drink plenty of water to help plump the skin, eat a balanced diet and supplement with antioxidants and borage oil.
